Hi Everyone- My name is Jenoa and we lost our baby unexpectedly at the 16th week checkup. (July 8th, on my husband's birthday) They could not find a heartbeat and the baby measured 13 weeks, 5 days. We didn't have any signs so it was very unexpected. I have a two year old son (perfect pregnancy, very healthy). We delivered Zoe Aionios two days after the ultrasound. We got to hold him and his name means "Life Eternal" from Romans 5. Thank you to everyone for all of the reassuring posts (I've spent about an hour reading some of them). I was wondering if anyone still posts that has had another successful pregnancy after losing a baby. They say since we have one healthy baby that it shouldn't be an issue... I guess I'm just in the neighborhood for some good news. We go back on friday to see the OB. Anything I should be prepared for or any questions I should make sure to ask? Also, any advice on ways to handle anniversary dates? (We had an ultrasound scheduled 8/7, due date was 12/18 and the anniversary dates next year?). |

Jenoa,
First let me say that I am very sorry for your loss. We will all be praying for you and your family.
I know there are women at MEND who have had successful pregnancies since their loss. I hope you get some great support and hope.
The main thing I wanted to know at the postpartum OB check-up was why it happened. I don't know if they can tell you but maybe you can get some answers. I also wanted to know when I could try again. I think that is on everyone's minds.
I try to visit my son's grave when I can since it is 5 hours away. Otherwise, I don't have any advice on handling important dates. I think you should do whatever you feel like doing that day. You may not want to do anything related to Zoe on those days if it hurts too much. You will remember and honor her everyday so it doesn't have to be stressful to do something big on those days. My due date was 12/26/07 and I don't know how I will feel on that day. It was also the day I found out he died so Christmas will probably be hard for both of us.
Just take it one day at a time and love yourself. We are here for you anytime.

Jenoa, Anniversaries can be hard, but you will be surprised at how well you will do and then other days will be harder than expected. Just know that this is completely normal. Maybe just spending time with your other son will help with the pain. Just know that we are here for you in what ever you are going through. I know the ladies on here have been more than helpful on my bad days. I will be praying for you and your family. -Jessica |

Hi Everyone-
I just wanted to let you know that we saw the OB today and she said that they found Ureaplasma in the placenta and that could be the cause of the miscarriage... after doing some research, they think it can be a common cause of miscarriage but it is not routinely checked for.
Thank you to everyone for your support!!

Hello Ladies-
I got got a call from my OB today that the second test for Ureaplasm came back positive (they thought it would be gone after the antibiotics from being in the hospital when we lost the baby). So its a bit of a discouraging day. Some women/pregnancies have no effects, but it is a common cause of premature death, early labor, etc. It can also result in "temporary" infertility. This is our first month of actively TTC after our loss, so its a big of a blow. There isn't anything that says we can't still try and have a successful pregnancy, but I'll do another round of antibiotic and as my OB said "keep testing until we get a negative".
This article was helpful to me as I was researching this "germ". It wouldn't hurt for more people to be asked to be tested for it!! http://www.radianceclinic.com/html/mycoplasma__ureaplasma_and_inf.html

Jenoa, I am glad to know you are back. It is always hard to get disappointing news at the doctor. I pray that this next round of antibiotics will wipe it out entirely! I am glad that you have a medical explanation for Zoe's death. That really helped me deal with things. The unknowns are scarier to me. It sounds like it is also treatable which is good. I will pray that you stay encouraged during this time. |
