Hi, my name is Nicole.
I'll try to keep my history brief.
Our first child was born on March 22, 2006 after trying for three years. Our second child was miscarried on Dec. 12 2006 at nine weeks with no heartbeat and only measuring seven weeks. That baby was due on July 13, 2007. Fast forward to July 13, 2008--spotting--another ultrasound on July 14 shows no heartbeat at nine weeks (again), measuring eight weeks, two days. We had another d & c after an issue with gushing blood on July 21 (Monday). This is two miscarriages in a row.

We have been with an infertility specialist and have taken fertility drugs intermittently, but all three have been natural conceptions. The doctor suspects two likely causes. 1. chromosome abnormality 2. My body rejecting my husband's part of the pregnancy (an antibody issue, possibly RH incompatibility, since we have one healthy daughter. He assures us that there is a treatment either way. We opted for the chromosome study this time, but the results won't be back for a month. My husband and I will also have blood work done so that we can determine RH compatibility.

I have to wonder treatment at what cost. If we determine that my body is rejecting the pregnancy he says that I'll have an infusion each month of pregnancy (a four hour out patient procedure). Does anyone know how expensive those treatments are? I'm trying to weigh the cost of possible treatment with the cost of adoption? At this point I don't even know what the treatment would be for chromosome abnormality.

I have prayed for God to take away the desire to have another baby naturally if this is not in his plan, but he has not done so. I'm sure that many of you can relate to the desire to have a child.

Has anyone been through anything similar to this or have any advice? My husband and I both desperately want at least one more healthy full term baby so that our daughter can have a play mate. Thanks for your help!

Nicole,

First let me say that I am sorry for your losses. I pray that you will have another child soon whether it is biological or not.

A friend of mine has had 3 miscarriages and no living children. She did chromosome testing and found an abnormality that was causing the losses. Her doctor's solution was IVF with pre-genetic testing on the embryos before putting them back in her uterus. Her chromosome defect can also cause birth defects so they can check for all of that before they transfer the embryos.

The cost of IVF is about $15,000 and then PGD testing is more. I would recommend getting a consultation to get pricing options so that you can make an informed decision.
