List here any abbreviations you've seen used that pertain to trying to conceive, infertility, treatment, message boards in general, etc. Here are some off the top of my head: ttc = trying to conceive bbt = basal body temperature dh = dear husband ds = dear son dd = dear daughter RE = reproductive endocronologist tww = two week wait (the time between ovulation and when you can take a pregnancy test) dpo = days past ovulation (how many days since ovulation) I know there are a ton more, but that's all I can come up with right now. Please add others if you know them! |

Jani, yes, I forgot that one. It's one none of us ever wanted to have to know about. The definition below (which I found online) is obviously not complete as it does not mention that a D&C is often done after a baby dies in utero. Sometimes this is done to prevent the mother from having to endure a "natural" miscarriage at home. Other times it is done when the mother's body has not or can not rid itself of all tissue, etc. on it's own. Dilation and Curettage (D&C) -- A procedure used to dilate (expand) the cervical canal and scrape out the lining and contents of the uterus. The procedure can be used to diagnose or treat the cause of abnormal bleeding and to terminate an unwanted pregnancy. |

| I'm not sure on the details about a cerclage except that it is a minor surgery where the cervix is kind of closed off in order to help prevent pre-term labor. If anyone else knows more, feel free to respond. Also, I have no idea about TTTS. Sorry about that. |

| It is a suture (stitch) that the OB sews through your cervix in order to keep it closed. As you get closer to term (usually around 35-36 weeks) the OB will remove the suture. |

I remember that it was uncomfortable and caused cramps. I didn't want to do it again. I didn't have any sharp pain though. There was some bleeding afterwards for a day or so. I didn't have any blockages so I don't know if it feels differently if there is a blockage. Sharon |
