Well, I haven't shared this news with much of anyone yet, because I'm not sure what to say.

After 2 1/2 years of fertility treatments, we finally gave up after our 4th failed IUI in April. We really felt the Lord calling us to move on with our family of 3 and though it was an unbelievably difficult decision, we felt peaceful about it.

Well...I got a positive pregnancy test on Sunday. I can't begin to tell you the shock we felt at our first ever "natural" pregnancy - after having totally given up. (Trust me, I know how extremely annoying this situation is for those going through infertility - I've been dealing with infertility since 2002 and always HATED stories like this!) However, things aren't going all that well. Though my beta count went up slightly since Monday, it didn't go up by much and certainly didn't double like we'd hoped. So, I may be miscarrying. I go back Monday for another beta and that should be more conclusive. In the meantime, I celebrate my 30th birthday on Sunday. I had really been looking forward to this birthday since we quit treatments because I was looking for a fresh start, a new beginning. And now everything is up in the air.

I'm having a hard time understanding why God would surprise us with a miraculous (truly miraculous!) pregnancy and then not let us keep this baby. Please pray that doesn't happen. Pray hard, please. All I seem to be able to get out is, "Please, God, please."

Thanks, everyone.

Thanks so much for the prayers and kind words. God truly does seem to be working a miracle. I had a bad episode of heavy bleeding yesterday and really thought it was all over. My doc had me come in this morning for another beta to see what the deal was. While I was waiting for the results this afternoon, I had horrible pains that eased after 15 minutes or so but have had only a very small amount of spotting today. Well, my nurse called and my numbers more than doubled! My beta went from 560 to 1326! Needless to say, I was absolutely shocked and so excited! Anyone who knows me will never believe this, but I was actually speechless for several seconds.

So, we're obviously not out of the woods yet. And of course, we have learned the hard way in my family that no pregnancy is ever truly out of the woods. But this was the best news we could have possibly gotten today. My nurse isn't all that concerned about the cramping and bleeding since both were one-time episodes and haven't continued. They will call again on Monday and I'll probably have an u/s on Wednesday.

Please keep praying for this little miracle and thank you to everyone. Out of sensitivity for everyone, I'm going to copy this post into the "early pregnancy" thread so that responses can be made there from here on out. Pray, pray, pray! God is answering our prayers.

Melissa,

After reading many post tonight, I am now crying so hard after reading yours!!! I just started form the top and I am so thrilled that your numbers are growing!!! I am praying that God blesses you abundantly!!!! You truly deserve it. This website may have been the key to my ability to move forward and not feel completely alone...Thank you!!! I don't know how I would have gotten through the last three months without it! Anyway, I feel led to pray:

Thank you, Lord, for this amazing gift! Lord, with honor and respect I call on you right now and ask you to bless this precious woman and this life that is growing inside of her. I call you into remembrance of your word (your promise) in Jeremiah 29:11-14 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you," declares the LORD, "and will bring you back from captivity.
I pray, Lord, that you will give this beautiful gift of life to this family and show them your strength and your undying love for them. Thank you, Lord, for this amazing gift! I bind up every attack from the enemy against this baby or Melissa and I say be broken in the name of Jesus Christ, our Saviour and our Lord Almighty!!! I pray peace for every aspect of this pregnancy! I pray perfect health for everyone involved, including Melissa's husband and CJ.
Amen!!!

Please keep us posted!
Thank you for your gift to us by letting us be here for you,
Lisa

Oh, gosh, after such a sweet response I feel absolutely terrible to have to give bad news. Thank you all for the prayers and support. After a whirlwind weekend including a visit to the ER for pain and getting varied reports on whether this pregnancy was viable or not, I ended up being taken into surgery on Monday. The pregnancy turned out to be tubal and pretty far along for a tubal. My tube was oozing and ready to burst when the surgery occurred. We lost the baby and I lost my left tube. We are devastated, but clinging to God's promises that He is in control and that He loves us. We are fortunate that the situation wasn't even worse. We came very close to not having the surgery since no one seemed too convinced that the pregnancy was tubal (it was hidden due to a bleeding cyst and lots of free-fluid - blood - in my abdomen). Between my doc and my recovery nurse, they have seen 4 women die in this exact situation. So as sad as all of this is, I am thankful that my little C.J. still has his mommy around.

I'm recovering nicely from surgery, but still have to have full-time care. Please continue to keep my family in your prayers. And again, thank you so much for all the kind words.
